On the Face

I love Hardy Fowler books and videos as they’re always accessible and interesting! His advice here is a break from studying anatomy as if you’re going into medical school and instead working on artist observational shorthand for the expression-giving details of the face. This was a great review for me this morning. I love how he names some of the facial topography after iconic actors with that particular facial feature in spades. And that he is also influenced by Ian McCaig, one of my favorite artists. Even if you aren’t a figure or portrait artist, this is interesting to watch and then you’ll notice these details in everyday faces and images too!
